Aspen, Colorado

My favorite travel assignment for location by far to date has been Aspen, Colorado. This position came at a time when I was looking for a place with a bit of a slower pace. Aspen is a rural mountain town, tucked away from pretty much everything. The outdoor recreation there is the biggest draw to the area. The time I spent there was during the fall between the busy summer season and upcoming ski season, so it was quiet as far as tourists were concerned. Some of the businesses even close during this time, because it is the "down" season. All of this was well and fine for me at that time. The peace and quiet of the mountains was just the thing that I needed.

The beauty of Aspen and the Rockies is something that I would not have experienced had it not been for this travel assignment. I am very thankful for the time that I spent there hiking the many trails around the town, and driving to outlying areas just to explore. American Pass, Snowmass, The Continental Divide are all in this area. Many mountain peaks, Marroon Bells with the lakes were all right in the vicinity to explore on days off. Day trips to Blackhawk, Co., with its casinos and Grand Junction to the west had many different things to discover as well. All of this while on a working assignment. Strolls through Aspen village for unique shopping and restaurants on many evenings. Walking distance to the local movie theater and Roaring Fork river running through the village. It was all pure enjoyment. I feel truly blessed to have experienced this assignment.

RN Travel destinations

I guess I should talk about my destinations since I put it in the title. I will start with my most previous assignment in Tucson, Arizona. I was a bit skeptical about going to this area when I did because it was in the height of summer. Temps reaching 110 degrees every day and then there were the monsoons with potential flooding to consider. Driving from the southeast region where it is humid and hot to such a dry hot environment, I was suprised that even though it was hot, the decreased humidity made it bearable. Housing was ideal in the foothills of Sabino Canyon, 15 minutes from work and an amazing view of the mountains outside my apartment. The vegetation was beautiful, cactus and flowers in full bloom even that late in the summer. I was totally amazed at the changing landscape and beauty of Arizona. Tucson is spread out over a large area and it took a while to find everything, but after a few days, we were settled in. There is plenty to do and see in Tucson especially if you are into the "old west". I loved visiting the Destert Museum, Cactus forests, Cowboy Town, and you have to go AJs gocery and deli in La Encantada (great gourmet dinners, grill and deserts), sit on the patio, and then head to some great upscale shopping. Mexican food is abundant and great. And I can't forget Mt Lemmon, an oasis in the desert as the temps drop 20 degrees as you reach the quaint village at the peak. Miles of hiking trails surround the mountains and skiing in the snow season. The surrounding areas proved just as interesting with trips to Tombstone, Az., an original old west style town, several trips to the Grand Canyon, which is roughly4 hours away, maybe more due to getting sidetracked to Sedona and not being able to leave its beauty and shopping uptown area. Wow so many sites in my 3 months in the area. All in all it was an amazing trip! Oh, and I can't forget a weekend trip to Vegas :-) Did I mention the work?? It was good overall as well, great people and a good facility to work for. What a trip!

10. Seeing places that you never would have thought about traveling to or heard of possibly, just by chance.

There are challenges that you will encounter along the way. Choosing the right company from the many that are out there is one of the first things that you will be faced with. Good research and interviewing with recruiters from different companies will give you the best start. Travel nurse forums are on the web where you can get information and tips from travelers who have been traveling for years and know the ins and outs of the business. All in all my experiences have been good, and the travel spectacular. Check out the many travel nurse sites that are available on the web.
